To provide an image forming method and an image forming apparatus stably reproducing image dots and attaining high resolution.
A method and an apparatus 1 for achieving the method are provided for applying electric charge for forming an electrostatic latent image by moving ions generated by heating air in a heated area 21 in an airspace 8 on a recording surface of a recording medium 5 through selective heating of the heated area 21, to the recording surface of the recording medium 5 by the voltage of a counter electrode 3. In this method and device 1, dispersion of image dot diameters is reduced to improve dot reproducibility in comparison with constitution with a conventional discharge electrode type ion generator. A clear image can thereby be formed, and high resolution can be attained.
