To provide an image forming method hardly causing transfer scattering even when using polymerized toner, and further preventing transfer scattering caused by discharge during transfer separation by using a transfer roller (belt) having a surface elastic layer, making an air gap small, uniformly regulating the surface roughness of a toner layer on an image carrier (photoreceptor), thinning the charge transporting layer of an OPC photoreceptor, making electrostatic capacity large, and applying a minimum transfer current.
(1) In the image forming method, the image carrier and the polymerized toner consisting of modified polyester are used and a toner image on the image carrier is electrostatically transferred to a transfer member by using the roller or the belt. (2) In the image forming method, the transfer roller having the elastic layer whose hardness is 60-80° on its surface is used, pressure of 1-10N/cm is applied between the image carrier and the transfer roller, and the transfer current between the image carrier and the transfer roller is set to 0.05-0.2μA/cm.
