To provide a video see-through type image observation apparatus capable of preventing an image having after-image from being observed when imaging and observing a fast-moving object.

The image observation apparatus 20 includes: an imaging system which includes an imaging element 2 and images an object; a display element 15 which displays an image generated based on an output signal from the imaging element; an eye-piece optical system 16 for observing the image displayed on the display element; and a motion detecting means 9 which detects the motion of the object from the generated image. A control means 11 controls an electronic shutter speed of the imaging element in accordance with the moving speed of the object detected by the motion detecting unit.
