To provide an image output system and an image output method in which an error message corresponding to an error occurred in a plurality of other apparatus can be displayed upon occurrence of an error in one of the plurality of apparatus (devices) connected with a network.

Upon occurrence of an error in the processing of a protocol conversion means 5, a protocol conversion BOX 4 transmits an error message corresponding to the occurred error to an image output device 8b capable of requesting display of the error message out of image output devices 8b on an Ethernet (R) cable 45. Upon receiving the error message, the image output device 8b displays the error message received from the protocol converter 4 on a display.
