PURPOSE: To obtain an image pickup device capable of recording an image and a sound by providing a signal conversion means and an optical recording means exposing and recording a digital signal converted by the signal conversion means on a photosensitive recording medium.

CONSTITUTION: An image to be picked up which is projected by a plane image- formation optical system 9 forming the image to be picked up and an optical shutter 10 interposed between the optical system 9 and the photosensitive recording medium 8 is successively exposed and recorded on a different frame 19 as a still picture on the photosensitive recording medium 8 wound round a supply roll 6 and taken up and carried to the housing roll 7 side. At the same time, ambient sound is detected by a microphone 73 and converted into the digital signal by a signal processing circuit 74, and an optical head array 75 is actuated to expose and form a sound track 79. The exposed sound track 79 is simultaneously developed and fixed in a developing and fixing unit 20 together with the still picture exposed by every frame 19.
