PURPOSE: To provide an inexpensive image pickup device capable of faithfully recording an image to be picked up and recording it so that it can be reproduced rapidly without being restricted by environmental condition.

CONSTITUTION: This image pickup device is provided with a photosensitive recording medium 8 wound round a supply roll 6 and taken up to the housing roll 7 side, a plane image-formation optical system 9 forming the image to be picked up in a specified area of the recording medium 8, and an optical shutter 10 interposed between the optical system 9 and the recording medium 8. The recording medium 8 has characteristic that it is exposed only with respect to the red component, the green component and the blue component of visible light and the change of absorbance in spectra the centers at different wavelength λ1 to λ3 corresponding to R, G and B is caused by going through a developing stage. A developing and fixing unit 20 is arranged in the vicinity of the housing roll 7 and the recording medium 8 on which a subject image is exposed is successively developed and fixed by the unit 20.
