PURPOSE: To provide an inexpensive image pickup device capable of faithfully recording an image to be picked up and recording it so that it can be reproduced rapidly without being restricted by environmental condition.

CONSTITUTION: This image pickup device is provided with a monochrome photosensitive recording medium 8 wound round a supply roll 6 and taken up to the housing roll 7 side, a plane image-formation optical system 9 forming the image to be picked up, an optical shutter 10 and a color separation optical system 11. The image to be picked up formed by the optical system 9 is separated into an R optical image 19R, a G optical image 19G and a B optical image 19B by every component of R, G and B by the color separation optical system 11, and projected to the frame 19 of the recording medium 8. One frame is constituted of the respective recording areas of the R optical image 19R, the G optical image 19G and the B optical image 19B projected after separating one still picture to R, G and B. The recording medium 8 on which a subject image separated to respective color components is exposed is successively developed and fixed by a developing and fixing unit 20.
