PURPOSE: To provide an image pickup device which is capable of easily shifting the relative location of an image pickup element and image pickup light in order to increase spatial sampling areas.
CONSTITUTION: Image pickup light is supplied to image pickup elements, 4R, 4G and 4B via an optical path canging means 2 and a color reparation prism 3. The optical path changing means 2 is composed of wedge shaped prisms 21 and 22. A piezoelectric element 25 is interposed between the frame body fixing the prisms 21 and 22, the voltage impressed on this piezoelectric element 25 is adjusted, the relative location of the prisms 21 and 22 is changed and the optical path is shifted. In a high definition mode, a photographing is performed by making a state where voltage is impressed on the piezoelectric element 25 and a state where voltage is not impressed on it every field period and shifting the optical path of image pickup light by 1/2 picture element pitch in a vertical direction and spatial sampling areas are increased. Thus, the shift of image pickup light can be easily performed as compared with a coventional device where an image pickup element itself is made to vibrate.
