The video camera makes communication with the accessory 30 to obtain information of the power consumption, makes communication with the battery pack 20 to obtain information of the residual capacity of the battery 21. When the residual capacity of the battery 21 is more than the power consumption of the video camera and the accessory 30, a microcomputer 14 permits the operation of the video camera 10 and the accessory 30 in a usual mode. When the residual capacity of the battery 21 is less than the power consumption of the video camera and the accessory 30, the microcomputer 14 activates the video camera 10 or the accessory 30 in a power-saving mode.
