To suppress deterioration in saturation due to clipping of a signal level which cannot be displayed on a display device.
An image processing apparatus includes a gamma conversion circuit 3 for converting a first color signal into a linear second color signal, a limiter circuit 4 for clipping the second color signal by using positive and negative threshold values, and a linear conversion circuit 5 for converting the clipped second color signal into a linear third color signal of the display device. The positive and negative threshold values are generated based on inverse matrix components of a conversion matrix of the linear conversion circuit 5, and the second color signal is clipped by using the generated positive or negative threshold value before clipping with the third color signal. In this way, the deterioration in saturation of the signal level which cannot be displayed on the display device can be more suppressed than that in the case of clipping with only the third color signal.
