An image processing apparatus comprises: a filter that generates an input value for a brightness component to be substituted into a prediction function that is for predicting the value of a first color difference component, by filtering the value of a filter tap comprising one or more brightness components at a pixel position that is common with the first color difference component, and one or more brightness components at a pixel position that is not common with the first color difference component; and a prediction unit that predicts the value of the first color difference component, by substituting, into the prediction function, the input value generated by the filter for the brightness component. The filter of this image processing apparatus is a one-dimensional filter.
