To provide an image processing apparatus which can reduce electric power consumed by a charging current to a charging circuit and a secondary battery by controlling charge timing to the secondary battery to charge the secondary battery when charging is necessary only for necessary time.

An image processing apparatus provided with a facsimile function, comprises: a memory storing transmission/reception contents of a facsimile; a battery supplying a secondary power to the memory when the power supply to the image processing apparatus is disconnected; remaining battery level detection means detecting a remaining battery level; charging time calculation means calculating necessity of charging and necessary charging time based on the remaining battery level detected by the remaining battery level detection means and the transmission/reception contents stored in the memory; and charging means charging the battery depending on the necessary charging time calculated by the charging time calculation means. The charging means charges the battery in the case where charging for the battery is necessary.
