Abstract:
To notify a user, when an image reading device is affected by light from a fluorescent lamp and thereby cannot extract the contour of a document from image data, of the occurrence of a defect in the generated image data.SOLUTION: A control unit 10, when an open state of a document cover member 32 is detected by an open/close detection unit 33, causes an image reading unit 11 to generate first image data corresponding to the entirety of a document placement surface 31A, and when the control unit can extract the contour of a document from the first image data, cuts out second image data corresponding to a portion showing the document from the first image data. When the control unit 10 cannot extract the contour of the document from the first image data, displays, on a display unit 16, information indicating the fact that the control unit cannot extract the contour of the document from the first image data.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
