PURPOSE: To simplify the constitution of a whole device by binarizing an image signal read out by an image reader and extracting only an image signal corresponding to a bar code from the binarized signal by the operation of a bar code position specifying part and a signal extracting part.
CONSTITUTION: An image signal read out by the image reader 4 is selected by the bar code position specifying part 30 and only an image signal corresponding to the bar code is extracted from the signal extracting part 40. The extracted signal is equivalent to a signal outputted from an ordinary bar code reading sensor and necessary information can be obtained by decoding the extracted signal. Since the bar code can be read out by the image reader 4 without using a specific bar code reading sensor or the like, the constitution of the whole device can be simplified.
