To provide an image read recording apparatus capable of recycling a read image, eliminating the need for image transfer in the case of recording the read image so as to record the image at a high speed, and relieving the load on a transmission line.

When the image reading recording apparatus receives a read request from an external apparatus via a PC interface 17, a read section 14 reads an image, transfers the image to the external apparatus, and stores the image to an image memory 20 as a file. When the image read recording apparatus recording-outputs the read image, the external apparatus makes a recording request by designating a file name or the like. When the image read recording apparatus receives the recording request, the image read recording apparatus searches image files stored in the image memory 20, reads the image with the designated file name and allows a recording section 15 to perform a recording output. In this case, it is not required to transfer the image from the external apparatus, and the image read recording apparatus can make recording output at a high speed. Further, since the transfer of the image needing many data quantities is not required, no load is imposed on the transmission line.
