The image reading device is provided with: an image reading unit which prepares a first platen glass through which the draft passes, and a second platen glass on which the draft is placed, and creates image data; and a draft carrying unit which has a detection body which detects placing of the draft, and a mark which faces the first or the second platen glass, prepared upward of the image reading unit, opens in upward and downward directions, and carries the draft to the first platen glass. When reading the draft, the image reading unit performs reading of the mark before start of draft reading, and if the read size of the mark is equal or less than a predetermined size, the draft carrying unit does not perform draft carrying to the first platen glass.
