To provide an image reading apparatus and image reading system capable of managing the movement of reading information about a mounted recording medium by recorded information of the recording medium.
A compound machine 80 for performing scanning service is provided with a reading part 804 for reading an image of an original, a medium interface part 807 into which a memory card 90 is inserted to exchange signals and information, and a writing processing part 801 for reading information including a public key recorded in the memory card 90 through the medium interface part 807, encrypting the image data of the original read by the reading part 804, and writing the encrypted image data to the memory card 90 through the medium interface part 807. After scanning by the compound machine 80, a predetermined register decrypts the encrypted image data in the memory card 90 and settles a service charge of a scanning service.
