Abstract:

PURPOSE: To maintain the gray level of an image and to prevent a thinned part from being crushed by thinning a binary image to be inputted and subjecting the thinned binary image to reduction variable power processing.
CONSTITUTION: Binary image data inputted and stored in a memory 4 are successively read out for each image by a thinning part 7. When the picture element to be read out is defined as a noted picture element X at such a time, picture elements B, D, E and G vertically and horizontally adjacent to it are simultaneously read out as well. Concerning the successively read out the noted picture element X and peripheral picture elements, it is investigated by the thinning part 7 whether they are matched with two picture element patterns or not. When they are matched with one picture element pattern at least, the noted picture element of a black picture element is converted into a white picture element and the binary image is thinned. That thinned binary image is reduced on a prescribed reduction scale by a reduction variable power part 5. Thus, the left edge and upper edge of the black image are erased, the gray level of the image is practically reduced, and the thinned part of the image is subjected to reduction variable power processing after thinned.
