PURPOSE: To provide an inexpensive image reproducing device capable of reproducing an image with high resolution without being restricted by environmental condition.

CONSTITUTION: A light source 36 radiates light having all the spectral components of wavelength λ1, λ2 and λ3 corresponding to R, G and B. An image-formation optical system 37 is disposed at a position opposed to the light source device 36 on the other surface side of a recording medium already recorded 38, and a monochrome area sensor 39 is disposed on the extension of the optical axis of the optical system 37. When the light source 36 is turned on, the respective optical images 19R, 19G and 19B of the components of λ1, λ2 and λ3 of a still picture stored in a frame 19 are successively projected by the optical system 37 to a monochrome area sensor 39. A video signal is generated based on the digital image data of λ1 to λ3.
