Abstract:
PURPOSE:To moderate the visual deterioration of picture quality caused by the successive occurrence of mode transition of which picture quality difference is big by deciding the mode with the aid of using interpolation error variation by the mode transition and restricting the transition between the modes of which picture quality difference is big. CONSTITUTION:The mode compressibility of the mode 1 is '1' and that of the mode 2 is '1/4'. Then, the mode 2 uses interpolation in a field. When an image signal is inputted, thinning and interpolation are executed for the mode 2 and a total sum in the block of the absolute value of the difference between a generated interpolation signal and an original signal is calculated. Next, by using the mode decision result of one field before, the interpolation error variation being the difference absolute value between the interpolation error of one field before and the interpolation error for the mode (j) of a present field is calculated every block and the mode is prohibited to be the mode (j) at the present field when the variation is over a threshold.
