Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device by which a protective layer made of a plastic material having an almost uniform thickness is formed on a cathode- ray tube by using an applying technology of the plastic material.
SOLUTION: A cathode-ray tube 3 is held so that an image surface turns upward, and a fluid ultraviolet-curing transparent plastic material is ejected toward this image surface from a large number of thin nozzles 6b or linear nozzles arranged in a row shape, and is received by a surface of a film forming sheet 6c arranged in close vicinity to the nozzles. A material having no wettability to the plastic material such as silicone rubber is used as the film forming sheet 6c. The plastic material received by the film forming sheet 6c flows downward as a thin uniform film, and when the cathode-ray tube 3 is moved under the film forming sheet 6c, a thin film of a melting plastic material is applied onto an image surface of the cathode-ray tube 3. During the formation of applied layer of the plastic material or just after it is formed, ultraviolet rays are irradiated to an applied layer, and the plastic material of the applied layer is hardened.
