In a case where a first noise signal level calculated based on a signal detected by the noise level detection circuit 106, from an image signal for one image plane read in a first imaging control mode, is higher than a first predetermined value, switching to a second imaging control mode is carried out. In a case where a second noise signal level calculated based on a signal detected by the noise level detection circuit 106, from an image signal for one image plane read in a second imaging control mode, is lower than a second predetermined value, switching to the first imaging control mode is carried out.
