To provide an imaging apparatus and an imaging method in which good image quality and fixing power can be attained by irradiating a recording medium with a light beam for drying or hardening immediately after ejecting ink thereto thereby preventing excessive permeation of ink into the recording medium.
In the imaging apparatus and an imaging method for forming an image on a permeable recording medium by ink jet, a light guide having a light beam irradiation opening arranged in the vicinity of an ink jet nozzle is provided in order to impart the ink with fixing properties to the recording medium by irradiating ink ejected from the ink jet nozzle and impacted against the permeable recording medium locally with a light beam such that the light beam does not impinge on the ink ejection opening or the vicinity thereof.
