The imaging apparatus comprises: a photographic lens with a focus lens; an image pickup device; subject information acquisition part for acquiring information on a subject which is used for picking up a subject image from image data output from the image pickup device; and an image data display part for displaying image data. The imaging apparatus comprises: also variation determination means for determining a variation of contrast information and non-contrast information included in the acquired subject information; and focus state confirmation screen generating means for generating image data indicating a focus state of the subject displayed on image data display part according to the result of the determination by the variation determination means.
