To provide an imaging apparatus that records desired imaging even while maintaining quick return operation of photographing when a zoom error occurs during inter-exposure zoom photographing.

The imaging apparatus has a function of inter-exposure zoom photographing for executing photographing by driving a zoom lens during the exposure period. It is determined whether or not an operation error of the zoom lens is detected. When a detection timing of the operation error occurs during the exposure period, the drive of the zoom lens is stopped and the photographed image is discarded. When the detection timing occurs after the end of the exposure period, the photographed image is processed and stored in a storage means. A control means selects whether or not to adopt the photographed image in accordance with the determination result regarding the detection timing of the operation error.
