To make it possible, in a panning shot involving a change in focal distance due to zooming, to easily obtain an image including a suitable panning effect.SOLUTION: An imaging device 1 comprises: imaging means 112 that picks up a subject image incident via an imaging optical system 102; detection means 109 that detects the amount of temporal change in focal distance of the imaging optical system 102; angular velocity calculation means 118 that calculates an angular velocity corresponding to the amount of movement of a subject; and exposure time control means 119 that determines an exposure time. In a panning shot imaging mode, the exposure time control means 119 determines the exposure time on the basis of the amount of temporal change in focal distance detected by the detection means 109 and the angular velocity of the subject calculated by the angular velocity calculation means 118.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
