To reduce influence of perspective conflict, reduce time required for detecting a focal point, and provide appropriate focus indication in an imaging device and a control method of the imaging device which perform automatic focusing on the basis of contrast evaluation values in a plurality of focal point detection regions whose positions and sizes are fixed.
When a region of a particular subject is detected and there is a focal point detection region in the region of the particular subject, a focal point is detected for the focal point detection region. When focal point detection regions, in each of which a focus distance is present within a depth of field of a determined focus distance, include a region of a particular subject, an indication for focusing is displayed for all the focal point detection regions including the region of the particular subject.
