Abstract:
To provide an imaging element capable of various information items input/output without the need for increasing the number of pins of an imaging element package and capable of easily and surely grasping the fault occurred.
The imaging element 100 for converting a received optical image signal into a digital pixel signal and outputting the pixel signal from a pixel signal output port 150 is configured such that the imaging element 100 outputs information denoting an operating state of the imaging element 100 itself from the pixel signal output port 150 or receives information for designating an operating condition of the imaging element 100 itself from the pixel signal output port 150 for periods other than pixel signal output periods.
