Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prepare a new compd. having antagonistic action against angiotensin II and useful for the treatment of hypertension depending on angiotensin II.
CONSTITUTION: The compd. of formula I [R(1) is an alkyl, alkenyl, benzil or the like; R(2) to R(5) are each H, an alkyl, aryl or the like; R(2) and R(13) are each H, a halogen, nitro or the like; X is a monocyclic radical having 3 to 5 ring atoms; A is a heterocyclic ring or the like; L is methylene or the like; (q) is 0 or 1] such as 2-n-butyl-1-[(2-carboxy-3-chlorobenzo[b]-thiophene-6- yl)-methyl]-1H-benzoimidazole-7-carboxylic acid. The compd. of the formula I is obtd. by alkylating the compd. of formula II and the compd. of formula III (U is a leaving group) by using alkylhalide. If required, the protecting group is removed therefrom, or it is converted into salt. It is useful also as diuretics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents and diagnostic agents for renin- angiotensin systems.
