The invention provides an imine compound anion expressed by general formula (1), an imine metal chelate complex compound composed of the imine compound anion and a transition metal cation, and a dye for forming a recording layer of an optical recording medium containing the imine metal chelate complex compound (in the formula, rings A and B are each an aromatic ring which may have a substituent; R1 to R3 are each a hydrogen atom, an aromatic ring group which may have a substituent or a 20C univalent non-aromatic substitution group; R4 and R5 are each an aromatic group which may have a substituent or a 20C univalent non-aromatic substituent; and X is a direct bond or a group 15 or 16 element of the periodic table).
