Abstract:
To provide a method of detecting the presence or absence of disease accompanied by a deficient level of S-adenosylmethionine in a patient.SOLUTION: A method provided herein comprises: identifying a patient suspected of having such disease or at risk of having the disease; obtaining a biological sample from said patient; determining a level of S-adenosylmethionine in the biological sample using an antibody derived from a hapten analog of S-adenosylmethionine; and correlating the level of S-adenosylmethionine with presence or absence of the disease. The present invention also provides methods of measuring SAH used to determine a methylation index (ratio of SAM/SAH) indicative of a health status of an individual.SELECTED DRAWING: None
