Abstract:
The tool is of the type with an oscillating mass which transmits kinetic energy to the tool bit. The mass may be a double action piston which hammers on the bit. The bit shaft has a collar which encounters a buffer unit. The buffer is contained by the housing and comprises a tubular unit which is traversed partially by the bit. An annular stepped diameter chamber which is filled with incompressible fluid is formed by the buffer and the housing wall. Two conduits in the housing wall connect the chamber to the fluid source and a discharge chamber. Depending on the location of the buffer the chamber may be totally isolated, in contact with the fluid source, or in contact with the discharge conduit.
