PURPOSE: In preparing the titled compound by reacting 1,4-dioxane with a lower olefin and chlorine, to obtain the desired compound advantageously, by bringing the reaction product into contact with a Lewis acid or a mixture of it and mineral acid at any stage after the reaction.
CONSTITUTION: 1,4-Dioxane is reacted with at least one lower olefin selected from preferably ethylene, propylene, 1-butene and isobutylene and chlorine to give the desired compound shown by the formula (R is 2W4C alkylene). At any stage after the reaction, for example, immediately after the reaction or after the reaction mixture is distilled and content of the desired compound is raised to a certain amount, the reaction product is brought into contact with 0.1W10wt% based on the desired compound of Lewis acid or mixture of it and mineral acid while stirring preferably at 50W150°C, to give the desired compound having high purity and with no change in color tone.
