To obtain a processing method capable of preventing carry-over of chemical species from a certain tank to another tank by passing a material through a 1st solution, rinsing with a rinsing solution and after that, passing through a 2nd solution.
A photographic material (printing paper) is transported downward with a face 3. A developer is measured and supplied from a slot 1 and 2 and flows under the printing paper. The printing paper descends along the face 3, passed through a small trough 4 and ascends along a face 5. The development occurs on the passage. A part of water for adjusting a replenishing solution of the developer is obtained from a quantitative pump MP1. The water flows downward along the face 5 and is mixed with the developer in the lower side of the face 5. The cleaning (rinsing) occurs on the upper part 7 of the face 5, the developer contained in an emulsion layer of the printing paper descends along a face 7 to be removed by the cleaning and is mixed with the residual developer on the lower side part of the face 5. The printing paper is passed through a cross-over and transported downward along a face 8. The developer component is not substantially carried to the next stage, which occurs on the face 8.
