PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing a perhaloporphyrin complex used for an alkane oxidation catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: This method comprises: allowing a starting material which consists of a metal tetrapentafluorophenylporphyrin or metal tetraperfluoro(1-3C) alkylporphyrin wherein the metal is iron, manganese, chromium or ruthenium, to react with bromine in pyrrole at an appropriate temp., for a time sufficient to brominate the pyrrolic hydrogens, e.g. at 20 to 150°C, for 0.1 to 50 hr; and recovering a metal tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)octabromoporphyrin or a metal tetrafluoro(1-3C)alkyloctabromoporphyrin as a product. More specifically, an illustrative example of the starting material is iron tetrapentafluorophenylporphyrin and an illustrative example of the product is iron tetrapentafluorophenyloctabromoporphyrin.
