To form a spark by fuel spray concentrated near an ignition plug, suppress formation of a wall flow when exhaust temperature is raised by generating after-burning of fuel, and reduce emission.
A cavity 121b is formed on a crown face of a piston 12, and when temperature rise is required, fuel is injected by an injector at a plurality of timing after a compression stroke. A fuel spray S1 injected at relatively early first timing is guided by the cavity 121b to form an air fuel mixture mass M1 unevenly distributed in a relatively wide range in a combustion chamber. Meanwhile, a fuel spray S2 injected at second timing later than the first timing is unevenly distributed near the ignition plug 22 to form an air fuel mixture mass M2. Ignition is performed by the ignition plug 22 with respect to the air fuel mixture mass M2.
