A vehicle mount imaging apparatus including an imaging optical system 13 with lenses 1 to 4, and an imaging element 6 for converting an image of an object via the imaging optical system 13 into a video image displayed on a display apparatus 15 is configured such that a ratio of a horizontal magnification to a vertical magnification in the imaging optical system 13 takes a value between a conversion coefficient used for converting a first aspect ratio of the imaging element 6 into a second aspect ratio of the display apparatus 15 and the unity.
