To obtain an indene-containing polymer having low hygroscopicity and low birefringence properties, excellent in heat resistance and moldability and further having low permittivity properties and a molding material, a sheet or a film prepared from the polymer and to provide an optical part using the molding material, sheet or film.
This indene-containing polymer is obtained by copolymerizing the following (A) and (B) and has ≥30,000 (g/mol) weight-average molecular weight and further chain hydrocarbon groups or aromatic hydrocarbon groups through an ether bond and/or a carbon-nitrogen bond in a part of the main chain skeleton thereof. (A) indene or an indene derivative represented by the general formula (I) (R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 may each be same or different and denote each a hydrocarbon group having hydrogen atom, nitrogen atom, oxygen atom or silicon atom, a 1-6C alkyl group or an aromatic hydrocarbon group; X denotes hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an acyl group, an alkoxy group or nitrile group; y is a positive integer; and x is 0 or a positive integer) and (B) a vinyl monomer copolymerizable with the indene or indene derivative represented by the general formula (I).
