PURPOSE: To make the indication according with practical printing results be carried out, by a method wherein different width of type according to letter are stored for each style of type and by successively integrating the divergence amount of indicating position for each letter, the amount of divergence is controlled to be within half em.
CONSTITUTION: Control part CPU displays the letter input from keyboard KEY on display part DIS according to the program stored in storage part ROM, simultaneously carrying out the operation of proofreading and edition and prepares block copy on the picture of CRT. Further, the widths of all types used for automatic typewriter ATP are stored in storage part ROM. Because printing matter in European languages has narrow width of each type, it is indicated by half em and at the same time, by calculation and successive integration of the difference between the type width of indication and practical width of type, the amount of divergence of indicating position is obtained. When the amount of divergence becomes larger to a fixed degree, connection symbol is automatically inserted, the indicating position of next letter being transferred and the a mount of divergence is controlled to be within half em.
