To provide a compact indoor lighting system of an automobile that illuminates the back seat with sufficient light quantity with a little light unevenness by preventing light leakage to the driver's seat and reflection on vehicle windowpane, consumes less power, generates less heat, and reduces the manufacturing cost.
The indoor lighting system comprises cold cathode tubes 5 and 6, a cold cathode tube driving circuit for driving the cold cathode tubes 5 and 6, operation switches 12, 13, 14 and 15 for operating putting on/out of the cold cathode tubes 5 and 6, and a housing 2 for holding the cold cathode tubes 5 and 6 and the operation switches 12, 13, 14 and 15 and storing the cold cathode tube driving circuit. The housing 2 is mounted to the back side of the driver's seat and at the center position in the vehicle width direction, and the irradiation range of the cold cathode tubes 5 and 6 is set under the lower edge of the vehicle windowpane on the back side of the driver's seat.
