PURPOSE: To provide an arrangement for indoor unit of air conditioner, which is capable of reducing the thickness of the indoor unit, also reducing the flow resistance of air passed through the heat exchanger, and lowering the level of noise caused by air flow in the indoor unit.

CONSTITUTION: In operation of the air conditioner, cooling medium is passed through a coolant pipe in heat exchanger 4. On the other hand, room air drawn from suction opening 1 formed in the front face of case 3 is heat exchanged at 4 and cool air is diffused, and the time of cooling operation of the air conditioner, into the room from air diffusing port 2 by fan 7 that is directly connected to motor 8. Motor 8 connected to the fan 7 is fixed to the back plate of case 3 in the manner that a portion of the motor 8 is received in a hollow space difined by portions 7a of fan blades near the shaft of the fan 7 and their peripheral portions 7b. Here, depth of the port ions 7a is made smaller than that of the peripheral portions 7b. Setting angle of the blades of fan 7 is selected, for instance, at 25°±5°.
