Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melting method using a large capacity cold crucible induction melting device having ≥400 mm diameter of the crucible, with which the high melting point and active metallic material, such as titanium, can be melted and cast in a large quantity.
SOLUTION: The melting method of the metallic material is executed by using the cold crucible induction melting device, in which the crucible composed of a water-cooled copper segment structure is set in a coil for melting connected with a heating electric source for melting and also, a nozzle for tapping the molten metal, composed of a water-cooled copper segment is disposed at the bottom part of the crucible and a coil for tapping the molten metal, connected to a heating electric source for tapping the molten metal is circulated around the nozzle. The diameter of the above crucible is made to ≥400 mm and also, the frequency in the heating electric source for melting is set to ≤2,000 Hz and the output power thereof is set to ≥1,300 kW to execute the melting. Further, when the molten metal is tapped, the frequency of the heating electric source for tapping the molten metal is set to ≥500 Hz and the output power thereof is set to ≥50 kW to execute the operation, and the tapping of the molten metallic material can be executed.
