This system is provided with a center device 3, which is arranged in each area and stores map information characteristic of the area and area information consisting of advertisement information on respective stores and a public telephone set 1, which is connected to the center device 3 through an ISDN line 2, and the center device 2 downloads the area information periodically to the public telephone set 1 and stores it in a RAM 20. Here, when a card is inserted into the public telephone set 1 and specific operation is done, the map information is displayed at a display part 17. The display of the map information is charged and a specific amount of money is subtracted from the amount of the card. Therefore, a user when visiting an unfamiliar area inserts the card into a public telephone set in the area and performs the specific operation, so that information on the area can easily be obtained.
