PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate the evaluation value of signal quality with a low calculation amount by previously preparing the tables of various patterns with respect to the patterns having the possibility of an error in a reproducing signal.
SOLUTION: An information recording reproducing device obtaining an identification signal by using the PRML identification system comprises: a table 204 of the Euclidean distances of a positive pattern and its ideal signal, an error pattern and its ideal signal corresponding to the positive pattern and the ideal signal mentioned above, and the positive pattern and the error pattern; a means 202 for calculating a difference between the Euclid's distance of the ideal signal and the reproducing signal of the positive pattern and the Euclid's distance of the ideal signal and the reproducing signal of the error pattern when the identification signal conforms to any pattern on the table; and a means 202 for evaluating the identification signal by using the average distribution of the difference and a standard deviation. Highly accurate evaluation is achieved with the low calculation amount.
