PURPOSE: To always maintain a necessary interval at a high accuracy and simply even when a medium surface moves relatively in parallel between a probe and a recording medium by providing a sliding surface to enable relative movement between a support of the probe and the information recording medium.
CONSTITUTION: When a plurality of probe electrodes 406 are displaced relatively by a large extent with respect to a recording medium 408 in the XY direction at a full swing, an XY drive mechanism drives the recording medium 408 in the XY direction through a frame 617 with the recording medium and a base 801 tight on a protrusion 700a. As a result, the recording medium and the base 801 on the protrusion 700a slide over a sliding surface 609. Thus, the probe electrodes 406 and the recording medium 408 on a surface where recording or reproduction is performed actually are always kept as completed in adjustment of coarse interval both during driving and after the end of the driving with an XY drive mechanism.
