To obtain descriptive information about a desired headword by effectively utilizing dictionary contents stored in other devices existing in the surrounding area.SOLUTION: An information retrieval apparatus comprises: a communication unit 25 for transmitting tag information specifying a field of a dictionary and information of a headword to an external device and receiving dictionary name information and descriptive information corresponding to the information of the headword transmitted from the external device in response to the transmitted content; and a control unit 21 for causing a touch panel type display unit 17 to display the received dictionary name information and the descriptive information corresponding to the headword.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
