Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce solidification defects and to improve the quality of a steel ingot in the case of immersing an electrode in a molten slag layer and heating the same electrically by controlling the conduction of electricity so that the electrical heating temp. attains respectively specific temps. with the consumable type or non-consumable type of the electrode.

CONSTITUTION: Conduction of electricity is so controlled that the electrical heating temp. attains 1,580W1,700°C when an electrode is of a non-consumable type in an ingot making method which uses an electroslag feeder. The conduction of electricity is so controlled that the electrical heating temp. attains 1,750W 1,840°C when the electrode is of a consumable type. All of the solidification defects such as negative segregation, positive segregation, V segregation and inverted V segregation in the internal part of the steel ingot are reduced by the above-mentioned method.
