To improve the starting characteristics of a fuel injection device.
The injection device for an internal combustion engine comprises a high pressure fuel pump 1, a low pressure pump 19 for forcibly feeding a fuel from a fuel tank to a suction side 3 of the high pressure fuel pump 1, and a pressure releaser 41 for reducing pressure on a discharge side 5 of the high pressure fuel pump 1 at stopping the internal combustion engine. Pressure on the suction side 3 of the high pressure fuel pump 1 is higher than or equal to a feeding pressure level of the low pressure pump 19 at stopping the internal combustion engine, and the pressure releaser 41 gives pressure compensation between the discharge side 5 and the suction side 3 of the high pressure fuel pump 1 at shutting off the internal combustion engine.
