To dry ink normally in safety without causing any trouble, e.g. sheet jam or firing through contact with a heat source, even for a sheet of low stiffness or small size.
At an ink drying section 10, carry rollers 11, 11,... and a rigid roller 12a are rotated by the driving force of a drive roller 3a transmitted through a drive belt 18. Air in a housing 16 is exhausted by means of a fan 17 and air is sucked into the housing 16 through the gap c between the carry rollers 11, 11,... A sheet carried into the ink drying section 10 is held continuously along a sheet drying path 13 through air suction effect of the exhausting fan 17 and carried continuously along the sheet drying path 13 by means of the carry rollers 11, 11,... Ink on the sheet is dried by infrared rays radiated directly from an infrared light source 14 or infrared rays reflected on a reflector 15 and radiated indirectly.
