PURPOSE: To control an amount of recording liquid supplied from a main tank to a sub tank properly by a method wherein the sub tank and the main tank are communicated simultaneously with a beginning of printing by a recording head and are shut off when a predetermined time is elapsed after finishing of the printing.
CONSTITUTION: A head/tank part 1, in which the recording head 2 and the sub tank 3 provided with a ventilating hole 12 on an upper surface thereof are integrated, is mounted on a carriage 4 while a recording liquid introducing port 6 of the tank 3 and a recording liquid outlet port 11 of a main tank 10 provided with a ventilating hole 13 on an upper surface thereof are connected by a flexible feed passage 7 interposed with an on-off valve 20. A print commanding signal S1 from a signal generating circuit FS and an output signal S2 from a delay signal generating circuit DT are supplied to an OR circuit OR and this OR output is supplied, after it is amplified by an amplifier AP, to a solenoid SOL to operate it. When the solenoid SOL is excited, the valve 20 is opened. When a predetermined time is elapsed after finishing of the printing, the solenoid SOL is demagnetized and the valve 20 is closed.
